Growing up in an alcoholic or dysfunctional family can be difficult. We may have been exposed to patterns of abuse, abandonment, and neglect. These experiences may still influence our choices in relationships, careers and self-care. Understanding our family of origin experiences may provide us with insight into our personal journey with addictions, codependency, recovery and healing.

 

Mindfulness and Eating

Learn how mindfulness can renew and rebuild your relationship with food. Discover strategies to help you overcome eating-related shame, guilt and stress toward more enjoyment and satisfaction.

 

Sexuality: Unhealthy Patterns, Healthy Choices

Healthy relationships offer us balance and attachment in our lives. It is through physical connectedness, emotional excitement and a sense of personal comfort and belonging that we are able to maintain healthy relationships. We all desire that emotional closeness and connectedness and attachment. Making healthy relationships choices, including healthy sexual choices are essential for personal growth. Sometimes our needs and wounds can lead us into unhealthy choices and these desires can leave us feeling incomplete, inadequate and alone.

Grief: Coping With Loss

Loss in any form can cause a host of feelings, including anxiety, hopelessness, anger, sadness and despair. Learn how to process grief and to find hope. Grief issues are an important consideration for everyone wanting to follow a journey of healing and recovery.

 

Codependency: Reclaim Your Identify

Codependent behaviour is a learned coping style that includes hyper focusing on others while being unable to express one’s own needs. Learn to reclaim your identity and create authentic relationships.

 

Control and Perfectionism

Controlling behaviours often cause stress. They often lead us to feel insecure in our relationships. Many of us are perfectionists. Even minor flaws and errors can crash our fragile self-esteem.

 

Boundaries and Relationships

What is a boundary? How are they formed, shaped, damaged, or broken? How can we recognize healthy and unhealthy boundaries in ourselves and others? What do our relationship patterns and choices tell us about the health of our own personal boundaries? How does the setting of new boundaries help in the healing of our broken or empty relationship patterns?

 

Body Image and My Sense of Self

Deeply held beliefs about how I look and how I feel about how I look, can affect my relationship with self and others. Looking with compassion at our bodies, and exploring where the negative beliefs came from will help us move towards peace and joy.

Find out how mindfulness skills can help improve the way you respond to difficult thoughts and emotions in everyday situations and in times of crisis. Learn about the many different ways to practice mindfulness through walking, breathing, eating and more.

 

Resentment: Letting Go of the Past

Monday, March 29 to Thursday, April 1: 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm

Resentment is simply defined as “bitter indignation at having been treated unfairly”. Our addiction and codependency literature identifies resentment as the single most dangerous defect in our journey of healing and recovery. This workshop will provide the opportunity to explore the roots of our resentments and the path we need to follow to let them go.
